Playtime meets Scottish design

As someone who unashamedly owns a Lego ice cube tray, I was excited to learn that the Scottish Design Awards have invited five leading local architectural firms to conceptualise homes made out of the humble Lego brick.

I quite like GM+AD's modernist design, inspired by Mondrian's primary-colour cubes and striking angular design. Even though the award-winning firm has impressive designs to its name, it's nice to know GM+AD also has a good sense of humour. The building "details" for this project read like this:

Value: £24.99
Contractor: You
Site Start: Any time you want
Site Completion: Depends on the contractor's Lego skills

I also like the entry by Aedas (above) and the showy design by RMJM (below), with a glitzy Jeff Koons dog sculpture perched atop.

The event is to help raise money for the National Autistic Society in Scotland. You can vote for your favourite design here.

Lee, you have inspired me to go on a massive shopping spree on the lego website! I had been eyeing off the lego brick backpacks for some time, but I was put off by the shipping costs. Buying lots of things makes the shipping costs much more reasonable. I didn't realise there were all these homeware products available. Thank you for letting us know about the ice cube trays!
